DOTTS Newsletter – May 2024 – Issue 9

What have you missed? DOTTS round-up of activity, achievements and industry news

This month we are sharing updates on new OTP competencies that are available on Sentinel and also changes to existing competencies and what this now means for you.

It’s Showtime!

On 19th-20th June we will be exhibiting at Rail Live 2024, which is taking place at the Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre, Warwickshire. #9weekstogo

As a Rail Plant training provider specialist, where better to showcase exactly what training and assessments we provide to the industry than the UK’s largest rail exhibition.

Come and see us on stand M238, which is over the far end of the exhibition in the new “Marquee Zone”. DOTTS will be supported by our Directors and Trainers and Assessors, who are more than happy to network with existing and new clients, develop partnerships, and engage with the community on the latest innovations and developments for training and assessment purposes. We will also have some freebies to take away.

ALO – Nearly a year of delivery, so what do we know?

DOTTS have been delivering the new OTP04 competence “Control of Any Line Open” for 9 months, and here’s what we can tell you.

  • OTP04 is set to replace any current “in-house” tickets for individuals who undertake ALO planning and ALO Co-ordinator activity on the infrastructure by early 2025. Those who do not have OTP04 on their sentinel will not be permitted to undertake this activity anymore on the infrastructure
  • OTP04 does not differentiate between co-ordinators, planners and supervisors, therefore learners attending the course are expected to digest and pass all content for undertaking both roles on the infrastructure
  • There is a substantial amount of PRE-LEARNING that is recommended prior to the course i.e. around COP0032. DOTTS are providing additional training days to support learners’ preparation for the ALO sentinel course i.e. trigonometry, as well as providing practical familiarisation with ALO systems such as GKD, utilising our Plant and Equipment on site
  • The sentinel course is 1 day in duration and permits a maximum of 6 learners

Did you know, we provide managed recertification services?

If you want to take the stress out of arranging recertification courses for your organisation, then our Managed Recert Service can do that for you.

All you have to do is send over the names and sentinel numbers of your individuals and we will do the hard work for you by sending you back a plan of what each individual needs, available dates and locations.

What are the benefits?

  • Plan 6-12 months in advance
  • Less downtime for individuals, as all recerts can be undertaken together
  • Pain point removed as DOTTS provide technical support and understand scheme requirements
  • Group and volume discounts offered

Our OTP recertifications also aim to refresh individuals’ underpinning core knowledge and skills required to undertake machine/crane operating and controlling within the OTP training framework. All of our trainers/assessors are time-served and remain operational, keeping up to date with latest standards and legislation.
