Recertifications

Recertifications at DOTTS

OTP recertification is mandatory as part of Network Rails Skills Assessments Scheme. This scheme manages the way individuals gain, maintain, assure and renew competence.

It is made up of 6 regimes -: Regime 1 is high risk competence and Regime 6 is low risk competence. OTP competence varies between regime 3-6, and requires recertification between 4-5 year intervals.

Recertifications refresh delegates’ underpinning core knowledge and skills required to undertake machine and crane operating within the OTP training framework.

Recertifications can be booked up to 3 months in advance and they are much more straightforward and cost effective than letting them lapse altogether, therefore requiring initial training.

Testimonial from Chantal Wills

Rail Training & Assessments Coordinator - J Murphy & Sons Limited

I have been using DOTTS for our OTP and MC CC renewals and also some initial courses. I have found the staff to be more than helpful and always willing to answer any questions we may have. The fact they can take our renewals of up to 6 months and put together a schedule to work off truly helps, especially with the amount of people we sponsor and look after.

I would highly recommend using DOTTS and look forward to continuing working with them.

Types of Recertifications

There are 6 ways to renew a competence depending on which regime the competence falls into and the risks associated with it.

For OTP these are:

Knowledge Based

  • Renewal is classroom based with paperwork exercises designed to identify any knowledge gaps, with opportunity for professional discussion with the assessor and retraining or updates to key legislation and standards
  • All assessments are delivered by experienced assessors, who are time-served and remain operational operators/controllers

Site Surveillance

  • Renewal is undertaken at approved OTP premises or on site whilst working
  • Renewal is an observation and evaluation of performance, coupled with knowledge based paperwork exercises
  • All assessments are delivered by experienced assessors, who are time-served and remain operational operators/controllers

Workplace Assessment

  • Often undertaken for Single and Tandem Lift Planner competence, the renewal includes checks on completed work with learners providing evidence of a certain number of plans
  • All assessments are delivered by experienced and time-served lift planning assessors who are able to support with any knowledge gaps or skills fade
